An Interview with Baligames Game PD Suhwan Kim
Hello Champions!
Suhwan Kim, the mastermind behind the game design of Baligames’ Axie Champions, has a rich history of creating diverse mobile games. His passion for gaming has been a lifelong journey, fueled by the desire to create beloved games on a global scale. Having previously developed mobile games like Anipang and Legend of Slime, Suhwan Kim is committed to crafting a wide array of games in the future.
The Birth of Axie Champions: A Web3 Gaming Experience
Axie Champions is a web3 game that harnesses the power of Axie IP, incorporating it into a match-3 puzzle game. With the integration of Axie NFTs and the Ronin wallet, this game aims to expand the Axie ecosystem, fostering interaction with users from the broader web3 world.
While the game introduces RPG elements, offering complex battle scenarios, the primary goal was to create a game that’s accessible to everyone. Although the game is still in development and has room for improvement, the team is working diligently to enhance various combat content and progression elements, including diverse in-game sequences.
The Art of NFT Character Design: From Static to Dynamic
When designing characters, particularly with NFTs in mind, they adopted a modular approach, breaking down characters into different parts such as body, arms, legs, and accessories. While this concept might lead to simple profile images in other cases, they didn’t stop there. The team worked tirelessly to bring these characters to life by incorporating dynamic motions, a feat that presented numerous challenges. It was an arduous process, but the collective effort paid off in the final results.
The Intricacies of Champion Design
In Axie Champions, characters known as “Champions” are composed of different parts, including body, arms, legs, and accessories. The body type determines a character’s in-game attributes, with specific affinities to shapes (circle, square, or triangle). This affinity system, akin to rock-paper-scissors, plays a pivotal role in the game’s core mechanics, adding depth to the gameplay.
The arms define a Champion’s skills, acting as the linchpin for their strategic value. These skills can significantly affect gameplay, and obtaining a character with exceptional skills at a high grade is a rare and valuable feat. With a wide variety of skills to discover, mastering them and devising effective strategies become paramount.
A Vision for NFT-Driven Character Trading
Looking ahead, the team envisions a demand for Champion character trading. If such a demand arises, the plan is to mint Champions as NFTs. These NFT Champions could then be traded among users on the Mavis Marketplace, potentially appearing in various games beyond Axie Champions.
As Baligames and Suhwan Kim work fervently to bring Axie Champions to life, they’re committed to creating a vibrant, dynamic gaming experience in the web3 space. The journey is just beginning, and the future holds the promise of expansion, innovation, and exciting new possibilities. So, stay tuned for an exciting world of NFT-driven gaming adventures!
